One of the pieces that is most dear to my heart. "Whiskey Writes" is a stream of conscious painting created a few years ago upon hearing about the passing of a close friend. I poured a glass of whiskey to sit in my feelings and contemplate our friendship and life - hoping to distract myself, I began drawing that month's postcard - but couldn't find enough focus. 

Sketching figure after figure, I doodled, marked, and got lost in concentric circles of thought. Refilling my glass and putting marks on the canvas, painting over the figures not fully formed and finally finding my focus on the fresh glass of whiskey - painting it in the center of the chaos. The composition littered in tears, trails, and circular thought, I finished it with one of Whiskey Writes (Jesse Garza) own quotes: "Sometimes the words don't flow, quite as easily as the whiskey" - echoing his work and the evolution of this painting.

Finished with a matte varnish over the entire painting and a high gloss varnish over the whiskey glass, this piece is striking at 30x40 inches, 1.5 inch thick canvas, blue edges with a finished back and ready to hang.
